We're happy to say that the prices for scrap cars have increased again this month. That makes August the sixth consecutive month that we've reported an increase to prices!

This month's increase saw prices rise by 4% compared to the scrap car prices on offer in July, making them the best prices we've seen so far this year. Prices are a whopping 98% higher than they were in August last year! Great news if you're looking to sell your scrap car now.

The prices for scrap cars look like they may remain at the levels seen in August. Though in the scrap metal market changes to prices can happen suddenly, as seen back in February when scrap car prices decreased. This sharp drop in prices can happen at any time. The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It's updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. The prices are shown as a percentage, using the first month as the base price.

We've taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, by adjusting the prices to show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
