After ending the year with an increase to prices, January has seen a drop to the average prices being paid for scrap cars, though only by £2!

Scrap car prices in January were just 1% lower than those in December. That makes it 5 consecutive months that prices have been over £340. Despite the month on month decrease, prices for scrap cars were up by 27% compared to January 2022, which is increase of £74 year on year! It's a great time to sell your scrap car whilst prices are still above £340.
There are many factors that influence the scrap value of a car, such as the demand for scrap metal and reusable car parts, as well as the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even the location of your car.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
Top cars scrapped in January
The most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack was again the Ford Focus. In January the average scrap value of a Ford Focus was £391. In spite of the average values dropping by 2%, the average price for a Ford Focus actually increased by 3.4% compared to the average value in December.
Of the top 5 cars scrapped, the Ford Fiesta saw the largest decrease of just 4%. The Vauxhall Zafira saw the price increase by 3%, pushing it above the £400 mark again.
