Cat Dow, writing for Auto Express, tells us all you need to know about scrapping your car in seven simple steps. From checking online and recycling in the right place through to DVLA paperwork and staying on the right side of the law.

"Scrapping your car is usually a last resort but it can be a way to get shot of your ailing motor and collect a small fee for it. Around two million cars are scrapped every year in the UK - so you should be able to find a scrapyard to do it for you. If they offer cash, however, walk away."
