Apple Car To Be Scrapped

The much anticipated Apple Car may not be on the horizon after all. Named 'Project Titan', the electric, autonomous car project may have been scrapped according to reports, after a large number of engineers have been moved onto new teams and others have been given their notices. A number of other engineers have also left the company of their own accord in the past few months.

It’s said that Apple executives have issued a deadline of late 2017 to decide on the projects final direction. BMW and Daimler decided not to partner with Apple earlier this year, stating privacy concerns as an issue. It's thought that Apple being solo, with their expertise in communication technology, has left them on the back foot with this new development in the automotive industry.

Because of these setbacks, it may be that they focus on a system for driving autonomous cars that can be licensed out to existing car makers, rather than making a vehicle of their own. This means their aim of rivalling Tesla, the current leader in the autonomous vehicle market, may not come to fruition.

So don't go selling your old banger for shares in the Apple Car project just yet! We wait patiently for the announcement of the project's final aim in late 2017.
