In our latest look at cars of the future, we're talking about what the interior of driverless cars could look like. With these cars, our hands no longer needing to be so firmly on the steering wheel, there's much more scope for interiors compared to a regular car. Car makers are getting more creative, and the interiors could end up looking like living spaces or offices!

Seating doesn't need to be rigid like we've all come to expect, with driving being taken care of, everyone's a passenger so the layout of the interior can be based more around entertainment. With autonomous cars, we'll all be able to sit back, relax and enjoy a film, watch the news, read a book, or even work. That somewhat changes the often stressful morning commute!

A recently unveiled concept car from auto supplier Yanfeng Automotive Interiors, showcased several different seating configurations depending on the mode selected: driving, family, lounge and meeting. David Muyres, an executive director in the North American unit of Yanfeng said; “It’s a living room on wheels”.

It's not just details like seating that have the potential to change though, car makers are looking to reimagine so many features of cars. There'll be no need for rearview mirrors, these can easily be replaced by cameras. We wrote about this concept being explored in Japan. Further developments being explored, including the potential to take all of the buttons and controls that we expect to see in a car and put them all on a touchscreen tablet.

We look forward to learning more about the exciting developments in driverless car interiors and eventually seeing these concepts for cars in dealerships, hopefully in the not too distant future.
