CarTakeBack.com, the UK's largest scrap car recycling network has some big news. This month saw CarTakeBack's network reach a huge milestone by issuing its 5 millionth Certificate of Destruction!

When cars are recycled it's important that they are done so in line with the law. The law states that any business handling scrap cars should have an Authorised Treatment Facility permit, every scrap car must undergo a depollution process, and as much of the car as possible needs to be recycled to hit the government's 95% recycling target.

All CarTakeBack recycling centres are licensed by the Environment Agencies and issue last owners with a DVLA Certificate of Destruction to prove that their car has been responsibly removed from the road.

Steve Norgrove, Compliance Manager for CarTakeBack said:

"Thanks go out to our network for reaching this significant milestone, and for all their hard work in achieving the statutory recycling targets for the vehicles they have treated."

The CarTakeBack member to issue the 5 millionth Certificate of Destruction was London based ATF Redcorn Ltd.

“We’re thrilled with the news that we issued the 5 millionth Certificate of Destruction! We’re proud to be part of CarTakeBack and to contribute to this success story. It’s important to use a reputable company to dispose of your vehicle responsibly and avoid illegal operators.”

5 Million Certificates of Destruction Issued

Since these laws were introduced, throughout the UK there has been a massive 13.2 million Certificates of Destruction issued by scrap car recycling centres, with CarTakeBack handling 38% of these vehicles - meaning the network has successfully recovered over 4.1 million tonnes of automotive waste!

Rob Cripps, Manager, Homologation & Environmental Legislation for Groupe Renault said:

"On having heard the news of CarTakeBack being the first single service provider in the UK to issue 5 million CODs, I firstly wanted to congratulate you on this achievement and to say that both Renault and Nissan are more than pleased to be working closely with CarTakeBack and in helping to reach such an important environmental milestone, well done to you and all the team!!"
