Not the colour green - green energy! We love hearing about changes in motoring that'll help with the environment. The London Police Department have made steps to change their fleet of police response cars to the more environmentally friendly Tesla vehicles. There are plans to start with 250 hybrid cars and motorbikes. It has been prompted by reports from environmental studies suggesting that London is at its most polluted. This is planned to be rolled out across the capital within the next 12 months.

There are trials for the electric and hybrid vehicles to make sure they will keep up to speeds that are required and to hold all the equipment that the police need to keep civilians safe. Tesla have a speedy model called the Model S and they believe these will be able to keep up with the police cars we see on our roads today. More plug in electric charge points are going to have to be installed, not only at precincts but at points around the city to ensure that the cars will never be out of power. This is, of course, a matter of logistics that will need proper care and attention given. No one wants a perpetrator getting away because a police car has run out of battery!

We're really looking forward to hearing more about the trials and hope they are successful. Clearly, a step has to be taken towards getting London's air cleaner, and having 4000 police cars ultimately replaced with environmentally friendly vehicles will surely help!
