Recycle Week - how to recycle a car

Recycle Week isn't pulling any punches, taking its inspiration from some powerful sources. The campaign ‘Recycling. It’s in our hands’ is inspired by the Extinction Rebellion protests, and the activism of Greta Thunberg and Sir David Attenborough.
Recycling really is in our hands and it's never been easier, safe in the knowledge that rinsing out that can and putting it in the right bin ensures it will be recycled properly. But what about those bigger objects that need recycling from time to time like that tonne of metal, glass, plastic etc sat our driveway (also known as car)? With Recycle Week calling on everyone to take responsibility to rinse, crush, squash, sort and separate all recycling, not everything is as simple as that can. Or is it…
…In fact the basic process of recycling a car couldn't be any closer. Anyone looking to recycle their old car or van should be able to put it into the hands of experts that will do exactly that - rinse, crush, squash, sort and separate.

There are some very complex processes involved, but the vehicle is in effect 'rinsed' by removing any hazardous fluids, reusable parts are removed along with the batteries and tyres, the vehicle is then crushed into a cube before being delivered to a sophisticated shredding plant where it is squashed before being fed into the shredder. The metal is then sorted and separated from the other materials.
With 1.8 million cars recycled every year in the UK and 95% of every car able to be recycled, recovered and reused, this needs to be carried out to the maximum standards. At CarTakeBack we're extremely proud to have diverted over 4.7 million tonnes of metal, plastic, glass and other material away from landfill!
While rinsing, crushing, squashing, sorting and separating of a car is best left to the experts (AKA us!), ensuring this is done at an Authorised Treatment Facility by using a reputable company such as CarTakeBack, you'll be 'using the right bin'. And just like your household recycling services, we'll collect it straight from your door, and even better than that you'll get paid for this recycling!
