It’s another bumper month for scrap car prices, the average price for April was on top again! After a stable start to the year, we saw out April on a high. A decent increase of 7% was seen compared to the average value in March.
Each month in 2021, the average prices have been above £200! A great improvement compared to this time last year when, as the impact of Covid lockdowns hit, we were reporting a 24% decrease year on year and a 17% decrease compared to the previous month. This April, prices were up a huge 86% compared to April 2020! April’s average price for a scrap car was £16 above the prices paid in March.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The top scrapped car with CarTakeBack in April was the Ford Focus, for the tenth consecutive month. The average scrap price for a Ford Focus increased by a considerable 15% compared to March 2021. The average value was also up by a huge 127% compared to April 2020!
April saw just one change to the top five cars scrapped during the month, the Renault Clio was replaced by the Peugeot 206 in the number five spot. There were no price drops to the top five cars scrapped. It was a good month for Fords, with a 15% month on month increase to both the Focus and the Fiesta.
