Scrap Car Price Update December 2021

Posted on 3rd Jan 2022 by Rebecca Currier Posted in: Latest News

The end of the year saw the highest scrap car prices recorded! As we moved into December there were concerns that uncertainties around Covid restrictions could impact the value of scrap cars, as they had done during some months in 2020. However thankfully this wasn’t the case and we ended the year on a high.

After November saw average prices match previous highs, December’s boosted even further. Making them the best scrap car prices ever seen with CarTakeBack!

December Average Scrap Car Price £266

December’s average scrap car price was up by 3% compared to November. Plus prices were up by a decent 38% compared to December 2020, that’s an increase of £73. We’re hopeful that these top scrap car prices will maintain into 2022.

There are many factors that can influence the scrap value of a car, such as the global demand for scrap metals, plus the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even location of your car.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.

Top Cars Scrapped in December

All year the Ford Focus held strong at the top of the most frequently scrapped cars with CarTakeBack, December was no exception! The average scrap value of a Ford Focus in December increased from £281 to £288, that’s up by 2% compared to November.
