Scrap Car Price Update June 2021

Posted on 6th Jul 2021 by Rebecca Currier Posted in: Latest News

It’s another high for scrap car prices! The average value of a scrap car has increased on previous months in 2021. The increase again means that every month in 2021 has seen prices above £200!

June Average Scrap Car Price £259

Compared to last month, prices increased in June by £12. Plus, scrap car prices were up by 74% compared to June 2020, that’s an increase of £110 year on year!

As Covid restrictions look set to ease and with such a bumper first half of the year for scrap prices, it’s unknown as to whether prices will continue to increase further into the summer months. We look forward to seeing how things unfold.

There are many factors that can influence the scrap value of your car, including the global demand for scrap metal, as well as the make, model, age, weight, condition, and location of your car.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.

Top Cars Scrapped in June

For the 12th consecutive month, the most commonly scrapped car with CarTakeBack was the Ford Focus. The average scrap price for a Ford Focus increased by 6%, compared to May 2021. The average value was also up by 80% compared to June 2020 when the price being paid for a Focus was £135.

June saw no change to 2nd, 3rd or 4th place either with the Vauxhall Corsa, Vauxhall Astra and Ford Fiesta holding their places. It was a good month for Vauxhall Corsa prices which were up by 10%. There was just one change to the top 5, the Peugeot 206 took the last spot from the Renault Clio.
