It's another month of high prices for scrap cars at CarTakeBack, with May seeing a further increase. In May prices rose above the previous record by 2% to reach a high.

May Average Scrap Car Price £359

Compared to average prices in April, May topped them by £7. As well as increasing month on month, scrap car prices were up by a decent 46% compared to May last year, that's an increase of £112 year on year! In these uncertain times, with supply chains still being impacted for car manufacturing, and the demand for scrap metals always fluctuating, it's unknown whether prices will continue to rise into June, though early signs show them maintaining.

There are many factors that influence the scrap value of a car, such as the demand for scrap metal and reusable car parts, as well as the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even the location of your car.

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It's updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We've taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.

Top Cars Scrapped in May

The most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack was the Ford Focus. In May the average scrap price for a Ford Focus was £397. That's up by 6%, or £24, compared to the average value in April.

All vehicles in the top five saw an increase to the average value, and the Ford Fiesta saw the highest increase at 10%. The value of a Vauxhall Zafira remained well over the £400 mark! It's a great time to sell your scrap car to get some extra cash in the bank, as all average prices are up compared to the previous month.
