Scrap Car Price Update October 2022

Despite recent political turmoil in the UK and continuing financial struggles across various sectors, scrap car prices have increased again. Giving customers the best prices for their scrap car is always important to us, especially when we know that money is tight for most of us given the increasing cost of living. A rise in prices this month will be welcome news if you’re ready to sell your car.

October Average Scrap Car Price £347

Scrap car prices in October were 2% higher than those in September. Prices were also up by 40% compared to October 2021, that works out at an increase of £98 year on year! It’s a great time to sell your scrap car as prices are on the up.

There are many factors that influence the scrap value of a car, such as the demand for scrap metal and reusable car parts, as well as the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even the location of your car.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It's updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We've taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.

Top Cars Scrapped in October

The most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack was the Ford Focus. In October the average scrap value of a Ford Focus was £384! That’s an increase of 4% compared to the average value in August.

The only vehicle to see a reduction in its value is the Vauxhall Zafira, with just a 2% drop. The value of a Zafira is still above £400 though. The Ford Fiesta saw the biggest price rise. The 11% increase means an extra £32 for customers with a Ford Fiesta. It’s a good time to sell your old Ford Fiesta for scrap!
