The Oscars for Cars

It's awards season, we're not just talking about the Brits and the Oscars, there's awards for cars too!
It's been in an interesting time for car makers, we've seen SUVs and EVs increase in popularity, plus a focus on newer vehicles proving safer and more economical. We weren't surprised to see how well the car makers that we are the official partner to, did last year, let's take a look at the recent successes.
Aston Martin
British car maker, Aston Martin, has been known for its luxury since 1913, famously a favourite of James Bond. We're happy to see that they won 'Luxury Car of the Year' in November 2018 at the Luxury Briefing Awards. The DB11 V8 also picked up the 'Best Coupé - more than £50K' award from What Car?.
Sir Eric Peacock who presented the Luxury Car of the Year award described Aston Martin as a “powerful, hugely aspirational brand that is the epitome of luxury”. He went on to say that the brand had “soared into profit, increasing sales by an astonishing 8% in the first half of the year alone… it has been one of the fastest turnarounds and renaissances the luxury industry has ever seen”.

Citroën
For the second year in a row, Citroën has won two awards at the Carbuyer awards. The Citroën C3 Aircross won the ‘Best Small SUV’ and the Grand C4 Space Tourer won the 'Best MPV'.
Ford
Ford has had a successful year, being a strong contender for a wide range of models.
The Ford Fiesta picked up four awards, at the Parkers New Car Awards the Fiesta won 'Car Of The Year', at both the What Car? and Carbuyer awards, the car won 'Best Hot Hatch', and it won in the Carbuyer category for 'Best Small Car'.
The Ford Galaxy also received an award from What Car? for 'Best MPV - more than £30K'.

Jaguar
The 'Jag' has been an inspiration to the British motoring industry since 1922. After joining forces with Land Rover in 2008, the two marques have flourished around the world.
With the recent release of Jaguar's Electric Car, the I-PACE, it's the first all-electric car to join the line-up of luxury motors from Jaguar, picking up a few awards to celebrate its release. Winning 'Best Electric Car -more than £60K' from What Car? and being crowned the winner of the 'German Car of the Year' awards.

Land Rover
Since the early 1990s, the Land Rover franchise have been one of the top contenders for its comfort and versatility on twisty and tough roads. The Discovery has gained two awards, the What Car? 'Best Luxury SUV' and the Carbuyer 'Best Large SUV' the Land Rover badge is definitely worth having!

Mazda
The MX-5 has been a popular choice for car enthusiasts since the 1990s which has filled the void of those long-missed British sports cars from the 1960s. Recently winning the 'Best Sports Car' award from Carbuyer and 'Best Sports Car - less than £30K' from What Car?, proves to be a deserving choice!
Mazda, however has more than just the sports car to be proud of, Mazda also won in an SUV category, the CX-5 won 'Best Large SUV - less than £28K' from What Car?,
With technology ever growing, What Car? also awarded them as a 'Best Technology Finalist' for the Mazda Skyactiv-X engine.
Mazda has also been awarded the award for 'Best New Car Finance' by Parkers and Mustard.co.uk, with large contributions and discounts across the range, whichever model you go for, you will likely get a great deal.

Mitsubishi
Mitsubishi has long been a contender of the Japanese car market and the amount of awards they've won over the years proves to be strong. Recently they've added to their haul of awards by winning the 'Best Plug-In Vehicle' and '4x4 Light Commercial Vehicle of the Year 2019' by What Van?. Plus, the popular L200 didn’t miss out it won the 'Best Pick Up Truck' from both Carbuyer and Parkers.

Peugeot
Peugeot are the proud winners of various awards over the years, and this year proves to be no different. To receive recognition for innovation, technology and design craftsmanship, the vast range of awards in the Peugeot trophy cabinet highlights the quality behind the badge.

Renault
Renault has proven its expertise and experience with their Electric Vehicle, the ZOE, again winning in the 'Best Electric Car' category from What Car?, Parkers and Carbuyer. Renault's other models such as the Megane, Clio, Scenic and even the Renault Vans, have also been top competitors in the past and ended up with a podium finish!

SsangYong
Korean brand SsangYong, has become a fantastic contender recently with its great value for money vehicles. Winning 'Best Pick-Up - less than £25K' from What Car?, as well as 'Best Value 4x4'. It's a lesser known badge to watch out for on the road.

Volvo
Volvo has come up top over the years and last year has proven this again. Picking up an astounding 43 significant honours during 2018 and winning 4 awards for 'Best Compact Executive Car' by Carbuyer and 3 awards from What Car? for 'Best Family SUV', 'Best Plug In Hybrid' and 'Best Safety Award - Finalist'. Volvo are definitely on the right track for any kind of car journey.
