As turbulent times face us all due to Coronavirus, there was an expected impact on the prices being paid for scrap cars this month. The downward trend seen so far this year continued into March, with another decline to scrap car prices, however the drop wasn't too severe, down just 1% on the prices seen in February and only 6% lower than those seen in March 2019.

As we are regularly hearing in the news, the impact of the virus is far from over, so April is likely to repeat the trend and see a further decline to scrap car prices.

Currently CarTakeBack Customer Services Team are safely working from home and are able to make arrangements for you to sell your scrap car. We have suspended our drop-off service, however collections are continuing at present, following the Government guidance on social distancing and hygiene. Collections will only be carried out when it is safe to do so, and if you are self-isolating because you have symptoms, please do make staff aware when making arrangements. Customers should be prepared for delays to our service during this time.

About CarTakeBack's Scrap Car Price Index

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It's updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. The prices are shown as a percentage, using the first month as the base price.

We've taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, by adjusting the prices to show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
