The iconic MINI began in the UK as a response to the 1956 Suez Crisis, which created fuel shortages and petrol rationing. Commissioned by the British Motor Corporation, it debuted in 1959 as the Morris Mini-Minor and Austin Seven. Over time, it was famously developed into the sporty Cooper version in collaboration with John Cooper. BMW acquired the brand and launched a modern successor in 2001, after the classic MINI’s discontinuation in 2000. The best-selling MINI in the UK is the MINI Cooper.
