It’s another record month for average scrap car prices paid with CarTakeBack. In April prices rose above the previous record by 9% to reach new highs.
The 9% increase compared to average prices in March is a £30 boost! As well as increasing month on month, scrap car prices were up by 49% compared to April 2021, that’s a considerable increase of £115 year on year! It’s uncertain whether these high prices will maintain into May.
There are many factors that influence the scrap value of a car, such as the demand for scrap metal and reusable car parts, as well as the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even the location of your car.
About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack was the Ford Focus. In April the average Ford Focus scrap price was £373. That’s up by 9% compared to the average value in March.
There was no change to the order of the top five cars scrapped compared to March. All vehicles saw an increase to the average value, and the Ford Fiesta saw the highest increase at 13%. The value of a Vauxhall Zafira tipped well over the £400 mark! It’s a great time to sell your car for scrap as all average prices are up compared to the previous month.
