The height of the summer saw scrap car prices drop by 2%. This slight reduction brings August level with the average value in April, the lowest seen this year. Despite decreases over the last two months, the average value for scrap cars has only dropped by £10 during that time.

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack is again, the Ford Focus. In August, three cars in the top five maintained or increased in value. It was good news for owners of Vauxhall Astras as the scrap value increased by 7% compared to July, reaching an average price of £250.
