As we ended the year December’s average scrap car prices hit a low. Compared to November, prices dropped by 2% drop. This means scrap car prices reached the lowest level seen in 2024.
Despite low average values, your car could be worth much more than the average scrap price! Various factors contribute to the value of scrap cars, including, the demand for metal and reusable car parts, as well as the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even your location.
In December the Ford Focus was the most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack. A scrap Ford Focus was worth an average of £248. That’s 8% higher than the general average scrap car price.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The Ford Focus was again the most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack. The scrap value of a Focus has fluctuated in recent months, October saw a 6% increase, November saw a 6% decrease and in December prices decreased by 2%.
In December, cars in the top five saw a drop in value, with the exception of the Vauxhall Astra which had a 7% boost.
