We may have recently experienced a heatwave with the weather, but there haven’t been any fluctuations with scrap prices on offer for cars this month, they remain at the same level that we saw in June. So no change to report to the month on month prices but scrap car prices are still a decent 31% more than they were this time last year!
With prices being just 1% lower than the highest level reported this year, now could be a great time to scrap your car. There’s never any certainty to forecasting the scrap metal prices for cars, global demand for metal may change and we may see prices fall next month, so act now while prices are still top!
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. The prices are shown as a percentage, using the first month as the base price.
We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, by adjusting the prices to show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.

This is the first time in 2019 that we’ve seen prices remain at the same level as the previous month. Whilst it’s not unheard of, it is unusual to see this stability. Until recently we’ve been reporting a rise in scrap prices month on month, since March.
