Scrap car prices have been on the rise each month since May 2020. July however has put an end to the 13 months of increases, as average scrap car prices have fallen slightly, by just 3%. That’s £9 lower than the prices in June.
Even though prices have dropped in July, they’re still the second highest prices in 2021, and are considerably higher than the value of scrap cars in the summer of 2020. The average scrap car value was up by 56% compared to July 2020, that’s an increase of £90 year on year!
Prices look set to maintain as we head into August, but there’s no certainty.
There are many factors that can influence the scrap value of your car, including the global demand for scrap metal, as well as the make, model, age, weight, condition, and location of your car.
About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
There’s no change at the top, the Ford Focus still leads the top 5 cars scrapped with CarTakeBack. The average price for a Ford Focus increased by 2%, that’s £5, compared to June 2021.
July saw no change to cars in the top 5, just the cars in the 2nd and 3rd spots. The Vauxhall Corsa dropped from 2nd to 3rd, switching places with the Vauxhall Astra.
The percentage changes month on month weren’t too considerable, except for the price of a Vauxhall Corsa, which dropped by 13%.
There were no increases to the scrap prices for the top 5 cars, however, the percentage changes month on month weren’t too considerable. The top three all saw minor decreases whilst the bottom two maintained.
