July sees the average price for a scrap car drop by just £4. After two consecutive months of increases, scrap car prices decreased by 2% in July. This decrease is only minor and during the last three months prices haven’t veered too far from £250. Encouragingly the average scrap car price looks to be maintaining into July. As we head into the summer holiday period we may see prices remain around this level.
In July the most frequently scrapped car was the Ford Focus, and this was worth an average of £279! That’s 11% higher than the general average scrap car price. If you old a Ford Focus that’s ready to scrap, it’s a good time to cash in.

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack is again, the Ford Focus. In July, three cars in the top five decreased in value, and one maintained its price. Only the Vauxhall Corsa saw an increase to the average scrap value compared to June. Great news for Corsa owners as the price jumped by 10%!
