Good news to go along with this heatwave this month, if you’re considering scrapping your car. In June we saw scrap prices increase by 4% on the previous month, making the current prices the highest ones seen this year!
Compared to this time last year, scrap metal prices have increased by 27%. Whilst it looks like prices could maintain into the summer there is no guarantee that we won’t see a drop in the prices of scrap cars, due to the demand in metal causing fluctuating prices. Now could be a great time to scrap your car, as we’re seeing the best prices of 2018 so far.
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. The prices are shown as a percentage, using the first month as the base price.
We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, by adjusting the prices to show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.

You can quickly find out how much your car is worth as scrap by entering your registration and postcode into our instant scrap car quote form. CarTakeBack will show you the best prices for your scrap car, as well as options for dropping it off or having it collected. There’s no obligation with your quote, and the prices are guaranteed for seven days, meaning if the scrap metal prices fall, you’ll still get paid what your car is worth right now.
As well as scrap cars, CarTakeBack buys cars that are still on the road, and ones that have parts which can be reused. Our instant car quote process is the same, just enter the registration and postcode of where the car is, and we’ll show you the highest prices in your local area.
