The start of the summer saw the average price for a scrap car maintain at the value seen in May. As prices level out in June they’re still the highest seen, with prices well above those during 2021.
Scrap car prices were up by a decent 38% compared to June last year, that’s an increase of £100 year on year! In these uncertain times, with supply chains still impacting car manufacturing, and the demand for scrap metal fluctuating, it’s likely that prices will maintain or even drop slightly in July. So now is a great time to scrap your car and get some extra cash in the bank while prices are on top.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack was the Ford Focus. In June the average scrap price for a Ford Focus was £378. That’s down by 5%, or £19, compared to the average value in May.
All vehicles in the top five saw a decrease to the average value this month. Despite the decreases, values remain well over £300, and the Vauxhall Zafira is still over £400!
