For the second consecutive month, the average price for a scrap car increased by 2%, that’s an extra £5 for those who scrapped cars in June. This further increase is a positive sign of prices recovering from the lowest levels seen this year, £245 in April. Encouragingly the average scrap car price looks to be maintaining into July.
In June the most frequently scrapped car was the Ford Focus, and this was worth an average of £290! That’s 13.7% higher than the general average scrap car price.

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack is again, the Ford Focus. In June all cars in the top five increased in value, except for the Vauxhall Corsa, which saw a 5% reduction to the average scrap value compared to May. It was great news for Fiesta owners as the price increased by 11%!
