A whopping increase to scrap car prices in March sees out the first quarter of 2022 on an all time high! March is another record breaking month for scrap car prices, this time rising by a considerable amount.
In March the average price for a scrap car was 15% higher than those on offer in February – that’s a £42 increase! As well as increasing month on month, scrap car prices were up by 46% compared to March 2021, that’s a considerable increase of £100 year on year! Early signs show that these top scrap car prices could maintain into April.
There are many factors that influence the scrap value of a car, such as the global demand for metals and reusable parts, plus the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even location of your car.

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack was the Ford Focus. In March the average Ford Focus scrap price was £343. That’s up by 16% compared to the average value in February.
The Vauxhall Zafira has appeared in the top 5 list for the first time and has the highest average value of all the other cars in the top list!
It’s a great time to sell your car for scrap as all average prices are up by over 10% compared to the previous month. It’s the first time that all percentage increases have been in double figures!
