After 2023 seeing month on month decreases, the first quarter of the year ends with the average price for a scrap car on a stable footing. In March prices increased by £2 compared to February, that’s just under 1%.
In March, the average value of a Ford Focus (which was the most frequently scrapped car) was worth £312 on average – that’s £44 above the general average. It’s a great time to scrap an old Ford Focus!

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
March saw the top three positions taken by the Focus, Corsa and Fiesta – which is no change on last month. The remaining spots in the top five exchanged places, seeing the Astra step above the Clio in March. The Renault Clio saw the biggest price increase of 5% on average – that’s an extra £10 for Clio owners who are ready to scrap their car. The highest value of the top five, went to the Ford Focus, the most frequently scrapped car, which is worth £312 on average.
