Scrap car prices are back on top! Recent months saw some minor decreases to scrap car prices, though they started to increase in October. In November the increase to scrap car prices of 4% compared to October, means they’ve risen to match those from June, which were the highest prices seen this year!
Prices are also up compared to November 2020, by 43%, that’s an increase of £78 year on year. As we head into the festive period with more uncertainty around potential Covid restrictions, we may see prices take another fall, though as always with scrap car values, nothing is certain and prices could even reach a new high before we see the year out!
There are many factors that can influence the scrap value of a car, such as the global demand for scrap metals, plus the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even location of your car.
About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The Ford Focus still holds strong at the top of the most frequently scrapped cars with CarTakeBack. The average scrap value of a Ford Focus increased from £270 to £281, that’s up by £11 compared to October.
There’s been no change to the order of the top five cars scrapped for the last three months.
The largest increase in the top five cars was the Ford Fiesta, which saw a 9% rise compared to the previous month.
