Given the cost of living crisis in the UK, a surprising increase was seen on scrap car prices in October. Unfortunately the same can’t be said for November. The average price has fallen, though only marginally.
Scrap car prices in November were just 2%, or £6 lower than those in October. Despite the month on month drop, prices were up by 32% compared to November 2021, which is increase of £82 year on year! It’s still a good time to sell your scrap car, as average prices are only £18 behind the highest seen this year.
There are many factors that influence the scrap value of a car, such as the demand for scrap metal and reusable car parts, as well as the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even the location of your car.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack was the Ford Focus. In November the average scrap value of a Ford Focus was £372. That’s a decrease of 3% compared to the average value in October.
All vehicles in the top 5 saw a drop in value in November. The Ford Fiesta saw the largest decrease, however it had increased by 11% in October, so the November price returns to that seen in September. The smallest loss was for the Vauxhall Zafira, which still holds just above a £400 average value.
