The average value of a scrap car has fluctuated slightly in recent months and October was no exception. After a fall of just 2% in September, October saw prices recover to the level seen in August. In October scrap car prices saw a modest increase of 2%, also bringing them closer to the highest seen, which were back in June.
Prices are up by 44% compared to October last year, that’s an increase of £76 year on year. We predicted that prices would maintain around the same level through the autumn and they still look set to do so.
There are many factors that can influence the scrap value of a car, such as the global demand for scrap metals, plus the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even location of your car.
About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The Ford Focus still holds strong at the top of the most frequently scrapped cars with CarTakeBack. The average scrap value of a Ford Focus increased from £243 to £270, that’s up by £27 compared to September.
Despite an overall small increase of 2% to average scrap car values, two cars saw 11% increase to the value, the Ford Focus as well as the Vauxhall Corsa. September saw the same vehicles in the top 5, in the same order too.
