Last month the average price paid for a scrap car dropped by 4%. As we move into Autumn, scrap car prices hit the lowest level seen this year. The 4% reduction in September equates to just £9, compared to August prices.

In September the most frequently scrapped car was the Ford Focus. A scrap Ford Focus was worth an average of £254. That’s 8% higher than the general average scrap car price, or an extra £18 in your bank!

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack is again, the Ford Focus. In September, all cars in the top five saw a decrease to the average value, except for the Ford Fiesta. The Ford Fiesta increased in value by 9%. That’s an additional £21 in the bank for people who scrapped their old Ford Fiesta!
