Current average scrap car price £220

Scrap car prices saw a small dip in August, though values generally remain stable in the third quarter of 2025. The start of the summer saw prices increase with June’s average price at £230, up 1% compared to June. At the peak of the summer, August saw prices take a dip of 5%, with an average of £218 being paid for scrap cars, the lowest average value seen in 2025 so far. Prices increased from this level in September to end the quarter, with average scrap car prices at £220.

The value of your car is always likely to decrease with age, so when you make the decision to sell your car, don’t hesitate. The price paid for a scrap car is influenced by many factors, including, the demand for metal and any reusable parts, as well as the make, model, age, weight, condition of your car, and even the location. Because of these factors your car could actually be worth much more than the average scrap price!

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.

 

Spotlight on the Vauxhall Insignia

The Vauxhall Insignia ranks fifth on our most frequently scrapped cars chart. September has seen its average value increase by 9.4% reaching a value of £278.

As with all scrap values, your Insignia could be worth more than the average scrap price, depending on factors such as age, condition and mileage.

Top scrapped cars July to September 2025

The Ford Focus remains the most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack. A scrap Ford Focus is currently worth an average of £231. That’s 5% higher than the current average scrap car price.

Between July and September, the most frequently scrapped cars were the Ford Focus, Vauxhall Corsa, Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Astra and the Vauxhall Insignia.
