How do I sell my scrap car?

We'll use your car registration to find out the type of car you have, together with your postcode to find its location, so that we can offer you the best price for your scrap car.

We may also ask you a few questions about the condition of your car, so we can provide a price based on what you tell us. There's no obligation and if you're not quite ready, your quote will be valid for seven days, giving you time to think it over.

Step 2: Scrap Car Collection

When you accept your quote, if you choose free scrap car collection, our local branch will get in touch to arrange to collect your car at a time that's best for you. We collect scrap cars from anywhere in the UK, your home, work, a garage! 

With CarTakeBack, you'll also be able to choose to drop your car off if you prefer. If you drop your car off, there's no need to make an appointment, just arrive during your local CarTakeBack branch's opening hours with your quote reference number to confirm the details.

Whichever you choose, you'll need to have any relevant paperwork for the car, your keys and your ID.

Step 3: Sell Your Scrap Car

If your car is ready to be recycled, it will be done so in line with the law at a licensed scrap car recycling centre. We'll make sure you get a copy of the DVLA Certificate of Destruction for the car as proof that it's is no longer on the road. And CarTakeBack will help you to correctly fill out your registration certificate (V5C - the log book) to notify DVLA that you're no longer responsible for the car.
